NPU HOMEWORK: CHUSEOK TODAY

NPU STUDENTS! Here is your homework. You must leave a TWO PARAGRAPH comment on this blog entry!

CHUSEOK AND TRADITIONAL HOLIDAYS TODAY

As a foreigner in Korea, one of the most interesting things for me has been experiencing the holidays, festivals, and other other celebrations of the Korean people. It’s one thing to learn the language and history, but it’s truly another (and often more meaningful) thing to see what people do. It’s much more interesting to see what people do on an everyday basis.
I now have some idea of what people do during Chuseok. I have learned what the traditional families do and what some Christian families do, I now have a feel for the holiday and its importance.
Here’s a question for you: What do traditional holidays like Chuseok mean to you? How important are they in the modern world?

Traditional Festivals is an important heritage of National Culture. Firstly, they are unique and are precious treasures from our ancestors. If we don’t keep them, we will lose our own cultural characteristics. Secondly, our traditional festivals are, in fact, just as cool as a lot of foreign festivals. As our country becomes stronger, the world will learn much more about our culture and our festivals, just like our language becomes more and more popular in other countries.
There are many traditional festivals in China, such as Spring Festival, Lantern Festival, Qing Ming, Duanwu Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, Chongyang Festival, and so on.And the Chinese traditional festival is ranked in lunar calendar. Every festival has its own meaning. Mid-autumn Festival (Chuseok) is one of the Chinese traditional festivals, and it is as important as Spring Festival for Chinese people. On that day, people who are far away from home should come back home to be together with their families, and then the whole family sit together in a circle outside the house where everything is bathed in the silvery moon light. In front of them, there are boxes of mooncakes and snacks, chatting and laughing is the keynote of the night.
Now I'm in South Korea, I cannot return to home be together with my family, even though I miss them very much, I should pay more attention to my study. That's the main purpose why I am here.

The Chuseok, to me, it's one of the biggest traditional holiday. we have many holiday such as christmas, budda's birthday, or independent day. but, chuseok has long history in korean society.
The most good things in Chuseok is meet all the relatives, and family member. it's not easy to meet whole family member in daily life. but in Chuseok holiday, all memebers meet together and make some traditonal food and song peun. it's very important to share food together, and enjoy the holiday. In korean tradition, concept of family is very important. we consider as family is the most valuable things. i met my uncles, aunt of laws and cousins. i felt so comfortable and happy because of this great family. To me, family is most important in my life. i'm so appreciated to god that he gave me the great family to me. During chuseok, i also working hard to make food and help mom and grandma. my family tradition is made song peun together. i was the worst in my family, but my father was best. he made pretty song peun.
This Chuseok is my last chuseok because of abroad to U.S. i hope every family enjoy chuseok like me.

After graduated the university,Chuseok has no more special meaning to me. after enter the university, i didn't visit my hometown anymore. before university student, i visited to my grand parents's home every year to meet my cousin and my relatives.i was very great to see them, and i was happy to eat delicious gourmet.especially i could give the pocket money from my uncles and aunts. it was the one of my pleasure. but after passed away my grandparents' i couldn't feel any emotion when i met the my relatives. and i didn't visit hometown anymore. there are several reason's why i couldn't visit hometown. after got a job, i always worked in holyday, and i didn't have enough time to visit there. and they also agreed why i couldn't visit. this holyday also i didn't go. just i stayed at home all day. to me, those holyday is just holyday for take a deep sleep

One of the great traditional holiday in korea is chusuk. we meet our relatives and we talk abot our life, make sonpyun. very In korea we have two big holidays, chusuk and new years day. in modern time In this time meeting our relatives is so difficult.because our life is very busy. also we don't live close to relatives. If our traditional holiday disappear we will not meet each other anymore.
so I hope we should keep chusuk for a long time.

Holidays like Chuseok used to mean a lot to me. Becasue I have many relatives so It's been always fun whenever we get all together on holidays.
However, these days many people consider individuals are more important than groups so many people don't go to meet their families if they are busy or they don't want to. so I think holidays are even more important now than before because holidays might be only chances to get together.

I think traditional holidays like Chuseok are very important.
traditional holidays are various. one of holidays, Chuseok is
special. we don't meet relation on the same place.
but, because Chseok exist, we can meet with relation.
also, we can have breathing time. at ordinary time, we haven't breathing time.
we can eat traditional food during breathing time.
I have thought that Chuseok is very good.

In the past, most of family live in same house. So when Chuseok come, people celebrate for fullmoon. And there are lots of traditional game. It was very big holyday. But now, many people visit parents' home, eat some food
and have some conversation. Because many people are very busy. So Chuseok became a holyday which people take a rest or visit their home. most of people don't celebrate fullmoon anymore.
To me, Chuseok is very meaningful holyday. Few years ago, My family made a lot of delicious traditional food like Songpyeon. And I can meet cousin who live very far away. And we did a funny game. It was very fun. But now, We don't celebrate Chuseok like before. It still fun but I always miss former Chuseok.

The traditional holidays are relly important to me. Because we can see our relatives each other who lives far places, though we can take a rest during holidays. At holiday we usually exchanging gifts.
 Nowadays the traditional holiday(like chusoek,New year's
day,Christmas etc..)means just holiday for young people. They think that at the holiday, "..we don't go to school, we don't have to work, I want to stay at home and take a rest..." like this situations, but it is some of them. But for me or some others, the traditional holiday is really meaningful day. also it will still be meaningful day till I go dead

Each year on traditional holiday in korea, such as New Years Day and Chuseok, I always go to my hometown in DAE-GU where live my parents. I help my mother to prepare some korea traditional food and another delicious food. especially, Songpyon in Chuseok.
You know, it`s hard time to me. because it takes long time to make food and entertain guests.
But, The Chuseok is one of the my favorite traditional holiday to me. because I can meet my family and relatives at that time.
we spend a great time with delicious food and talking our life. That`s why I like Korea traditional holiday even though I have to working hard.
Most of Korean people think that the most important in their life is family. also the respect for ancestor is important.
But, Nowadays, some people don`t visit their hometown. because they are so busy to work or they don`t want to go so far.
That`s too bad. I hope that you have a great chuseok every year.

Actually, I do nothing as much as other people.
My dad is only one son. He has no brather, so no one comes to visit my place.
It's nothing special nothing difrent to me. However I feel good on holidays even it's just Cusuk. I can watch people goes to their own hometown to see their family, and cook something special for holiday and eat them together. these things make me feel good, something special, know it's holidays. I mean holidays like Chusuk, don't mean something special to me, but it makes me feel good and rich because it's just Chusuk. I think it deosn't happen to me only. All Koreans do it. So the holidays like Chusuk, give us chance to check loving each other, each family, and pride by ourselves as a Korean.

The tranditional holidays like Chuseok it really mean to me even it not as same my holidays but it is similar to my country also. The reason that it is important to me and other people in the world because it can keep our memories and also can help us keep our own tranditional and cumtom. It like Chuseok it is one kind of tranditional holidays that remind people about God who provided them everything such as fruits, and what they have done every year that why they alwasy hold this holiday to thank God. It can be called Thank giving day. Another way that they hold this holiday because every year they work too hard so that day is the speacial day that they had finised all works from field and make this party for fun and resting from work and some people they visit their family and homwtown also have some presents for their family such as parents and grandparents.

What do traditional holidays like Chuseok mean to you?

Korea has two huge holidays which are Chuseok and Seol-nal. From my childhood, I did not go to schools and went to grandparents' houses. On the way to their houses, all the highways in Korea are full of people trying to get to their hometown. However such difficulties become joyness as we can meet most relatives and eat many special cuisine. Just like many Koreans, I think it is precious and important.

How important are they in the modern world?

The importance of such national holidays decreases these days. However they are still quiet meaningful to Modern people. These days, people are so busy with their own careers and are so indifferent if it is not their own work. Due to such holidays, we can gather together between relatives and can have special time having conversations or making relations.
It is quiet necessary to society.

Traditional Festival is an very importamt for me. Because Chuseok or New Year's day is special day. There is once a year. at the traditional festival see the many a relative. near kin or far kin is all relative. near kin or far kin is all realtive often not see. they very busy. so I think our anchestor mand traditional holiday. It is not only we country but also other country. In Traditional Festival see the many relation. Frankly speaking i have not like relation. I don't know. They how think about me. must they were with together I'm terrible. but if i go to one's grandmother house so very happy. Because there is i love people and i like relative. I'm so very happy about in that place with together talking about. But my mother is always working. example cooking and many housework act.... Traditional festival is for my mother very hard day.

There are some Traditional holidays in Korea. Traditional holiday mean traditionaly, enjoy on proper date every year. But I think Traditional holiday is meet relatives. Actually nowadays people meet relatives rarely. But every year, traditional holidays we are gather in big house. When meet my relations, we are play games, talking about last story that is we did before. I feel good this time. Through korea traditional holidays we can spend time more cozy. So for me, korea traditional holidays mean meet relatives. And in the modern world, traditional holidays is very important. Because it makes people will sincere with relatives. So I hope traditional holidays are continue for a long time.

I think lately people not important about traditional festival. There is in traditional festival a religious service. Originally almost it doing. But in these latter days be on the decrease religious service. Because in Traditional Festival increase go to a trip abroad people. And also increase they want break a tradtional. There is many traditional festival hate people. Because I think they almost a housewife. Korean housewife a large proportion of doing the work. example cooking and food shopping. It is not easy. But they don't know a great part of men's. They in Traditional festival doing the watching TV or with met friends. There is not help work men's how about think traditional festival. But still many for housewife traditional festival is terrible. They also so much think

I think traditional festivals are very important. As society changes into modern society, we forget many things about traditional culture such as ์ถ”์„or์„ค๋‚ . We meet at festivals periodally. It is good to experience about traditional culture indirectly. Actually I feel tired about what we going to some place. But I feel happy to meet my family and thanks for ancestor which ours roots. So, traditional festivals are very important and good to young people.

The CHUSEOK is one of the very traditional and cultural holyday in Korea society because Korean society developed with cmmunicational character we worked together and helped each other. It means both old and morden people think other people's condition even indivitual problems. We could say this cutular characteristic is not individual culture.
I went to my hometown in Youngju
but frankly I didn't want to go there because if I go there little bit boring so I would not do anything even though I went to my hometown I want to say about this thing is that we are not alone we are together with relatives and friend. My father always said that
hometown and relatives are important for me because my relatives made me to know about my self consciousness and also importance of family's love.
I feel that recently morden people
tend to missed about tradional holyday's importance so I am little bit sad.

The chuseok is one of biggest holiday in Korea. we can see relatives and visit to person who thanksful while in the mean time. Also we make song peun that is traditional food in korea. So chuseok is good and necessary to people. But, in my case, my family and relatives are living in America so chuseok doesn't have any meaning for me. Just holiday to me.
thank you...
